Can you tell me the top nationwide collegs near Missouri City, Houston, Texas?
I'm going to major in philosphy. And i want to go to a school that is easy to commute to from Missouri City, Houston, Texas. Also, is it possible to go to any of the top ten schools law schools nationwide (i.e.- Harvard, Columbia, Yale) from a Texas school? Are do the admission officers notheavily factor the name of undergrad and its prestige in the equation?

Undoubtedly it's Rice University in Houston. Sure you can go to the top from Texas. Bush went to Yale and then to Harvard Business School. Yes, the prestige of the college is a factor in grad school admission.

The Houston Independent School District (HISD) does not have the best reputation, but the are some incredible suburbs with superior schools. Schools are rated by TAKS test scores. These scores can be found on the internet for each school in Texas. Look for schools marked 'exemplary.' Many districts are very large, so it's good to know exactly what part of the district you will want to move to. Some examples: ~Southern part of Katy ISD has the better schools than the Northern part of Katy. ~The Northern part of LCISD (Lamar Consolidated) has the best reputation. ~Western parts of Fort Bend are good. There are so many more examples, but maybe this can help you a little. I don't have any experience with Utah schools.

I used to live in the neighborhood across the street. It's a relatively new school - built in the last 5 years, I think. It's a nice school with plenty of parking. It is not in the city of Richmond (although that is the address) - it is on the far west side of Houston, just across the county line. It's a somewhat rural area, although it's growing rapidly. And the Westpark toll road which was built in the last three years runs right by the school, so you can easily access other parts of Houston quickly. I can't tell you much about the environment in the school since I was never a student there.

You can take classes at Neal Hamil or Page Parkes in Houston, but if you are really model material, there is no reason to pay for classes. An agency will sign you if you have the right look, they don't care if you have taken classes or not. Houston Community College has a Fine Arts department that offers acting classes http://central.hccs.edu/portal/site/central/menuitem.182b4ad9afc58e607bd15b10c17401ca/?vgnextoid=1ea8153f44b4a110VgnVCM2000001b4710acRCRD&vgnextfmt=default Also Next Actor studio http://www.nextactor.com/ and Kim Terry http://www.kimterry.com/ and Lone Star http://www.lonestaractorsstudio.com/bios.htm Look around at the various schools, compare their curriculum, the bios of their teachers and the cost of the classes. See if you can sit in on a class first before you sign up

A school public school in Houston Texas for children with down Syndrome age 7 and up thank you for any answer.

I'm not really sure what you are asking. Most children with Down syndrome attend public schools and their parents, along with their IEP team determine if the child will do best in mainstream classes, special ed classes or a combination of the two. Exactly which school you attend may be determined by where you live, but many areas accommodate families with children with Developmental Delays and allow them to attend the school that is best suited for that child's needs. I hope you find what you are looking for.

2
All public schools accept children with learning disabilities. It's the law! All children are entitled to the same quality education. I work for Cypress-Fairbanks school district in the Houston area. What school district do you reside in? Contact the district to find out which school's zone you are a residence of.

3
Yes, kids with DS usually go to the regular school and attend some special classes as needed. Per the IEP. It's best to mainstream them as much as they can handle, for the academic challenge and the social acceptance.

There are indeed some brick and mortar schools that offer a series 7, 6, 63, 66 and group 1 license training. I believe Kaplan university has a location in Houston, and they do that kind of training there. But you can get trained all you want but unfortunately you cannot get certified unless you're sponsored by an organization (insurance, investment, bank, etc). It's just part of FINRA laws. Good luck.

3
There are many small exam prep providers that offer live classes in various parts of the country. However, you are probably best served by looking to a national provider that specializes in FINRA exam prep and authors & updates there own materials. One such vendor is The Securities Institute @ http://www.SecuritiesExamPrep.com. They hold traditional live classes in select cities and also offer live, virtual classes and onDemand classes as well. Best wishes!

Try checking with your vet, they may know of some services. Typically these are small groups that do the training. Keep in mind, while it's a great idea to want to offer your pup as a service dog, there are very rigid guidelines involved. One of biggest factors is your dog's personality, as I understand it, there are batteries of tests to ensure the dog's personality is just right. Most service dogs will live with the person in need of the service, but there are groups that take specifically trained dogs to Nursing Homes or other types of group homes for visits and play time. This may be perfect for you and your pooch. If this is something you are looking for, and your vet cannot help, check with the local Nursing Homes, hospitals or even the county MHMR to see if they have information on groups with visiting pets. Best of luck!

African American Hair School IN Houston Texas (Missouri City Area)?

African American Hair School IN Houston Texas (Missouri City Area)?
Im looking for a school that teaches short term classes for hair weave... I know how to do a good weave but I think I could benefit alot by going to a school where they could teach me some new things... My family stays in the Missouri City area so I would like it if the school wasn't to far away from the area... I ran into this girl that told me her hairdresser took some sort of hair course that took her 3 months to finish... and got a certificate when she was finished... Im not looking to work in a salon, I just have a passion for hair and I like to help people look good.

O.K. Asia, I'm going to keep it real with you. First, I am not in a position to advise you of a local school that suits your requirements as I live in Connecticut. However, I cannot resist the opportunity to express my opinion, hoping it will not be received as a criticism. Check it out... Yea... helping people look good just has to be a rewarding thing. No doubt. Amen. I agree. But in the same vein, why does a (potentially Euro-centric) hair weave have to be the best way? O.K., they DO look good, but what about natural hairstyles? Come on now... be open-minded. Locks are hot, right? Waves, bobs, I mean, the possibilities are endless. In addition, the act of weaving either fake hair or other people's hair to your scalp is not without question. Not just in relation to practice, but purpose as well. Let alone the usage of all those damaging chemicals. In conclusion, those same women who look bangin' with a weave are most likely even more beautiful the moment they see their true, natural, God-given beauty. But hey, I'm an Italian with dreadlocks of my own. So, what do I really know about keeping anything real, right? Food for thought. Peace.

2
Well, scott p. another incentive is the money. It seems everyone wants a weave these days. I think it's en vogue, but hey, I'm black and I've never had a weave, but that's because I prefer to show my natural beauty. Good luck original poster, but I can't answer your question, either. Best bet would be to look in the local yellow pages or call some of the local hair schools/salons.

My first suggestion would be talk to a military recruiter and see if there are any options for you in our military. They will often take you with no previous experience and develop some good skills that you will later be able to use on those applications for jobs. Keep in mind, just because you are in the military doesn't mean you have to go into combat! If that is not your thing then I would suggest that you pump out a lot of applications to low level jobs and just fill that section with a "Not Applicable" and explain that you have not had previous employment, but you are a hard worker that needs to start somewhere. Good luck.

3
it's normally 16, but you might wanna see if you can get out early. life's easier with a high school degree and a GED is not as good

4
Even though dropping out of school to move to Mexico sounds fun and great, you need to think of your future. I personally don't know many successful people who dropped out of school (in fact, the only one I knew was Dave Thomas, the founder of Wendy's). So I would think of what you want to do in your future before making a major change that will handicap your life.

5
you can drop out whenever you want. however, i would not recommend it. if you move to Mexico with your dad you can still continue your education over there. don't waste your education. Mexico is not going anywhere.

6
I think 17. Check it out. I'm twenty-four. I dropped out of school in the eigth grade. I've been to jail, I've been to prison. And what it all comes down to is that I wish I would've stayed. Finish school. You Dad isn't going anywhere, likely(?), so you got plenty of time. And then you'll have that behind you in the future.

7
Stay in school and visit your dad. You may not like Mexico. You'll surely kick youself in the butt years later if you don't go to school somewhere.

8
Well, if what you mean is that you want to drop out without your guardian's permission, you'll have to wait until you're eighteen and you can register yourself and appoint yourself as your own guardian. But if you have your guardian's permission, you leave school any time... only they wouldn't count your school years in Mexico. They'll only count the last level you completed (elementary school, high school, kindergarten...) You should probably refer to your counselor.

Near the The Heights in Houston Texas, looking for great Christian Private School (GradeK) and Mothers Day Out
Relocating to the area. Will be looking at neighborhoods in The Heights. Looking for a Private Christian School (prefer Prep Academy education) for Kindergarten, but one that places emphasis on Bible teaching. 1/2 day program would be a plus, but not required. Also looking for a Christian Mothers Day Out or Preschool for 3 year old. Looking for a very well organized program that also places emphasis on Biblical teaching.

Have no idea about architecture dept., but have you toured both campuses and neighborhoods? If I were you I'd way rather live near Arlington than that part of Houston.

2
I don't know how UH is in terms of education, but I have a friend at UH who I visited a few weeks ago on campus and she is honestly scared to death of living on campus (which she does live on campus). I saw it myself... it's pretty ghetto and frightening and definitely not as nice, as say Texas A&M.

It will take you a few weeks to get used to going to a public school. Your advantage is that students who are going to a new school are likely to seek out friends.. Join extra-curricular activities, pay attention in class, do your homework when it is received, study for your tests, be respectful towards teachers and students and you will be fine./

The medical school in Houston, Texas is the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (http://www.uthouston.edu/) Since you will be moving to the state, you will have to pay nonresident tuition. The school offers this information: (http://sfs.uth.tmc.edu/fa_docs/student_budgets_0708.htm) For the first year, education costs of $26,539, living expenses approximately $18, 730 for a total of $45, 269. The totals for years 2, 3 and 4 are $46,422, $48,592 and $48.471. You will be doubling to cost of your education to be with your girlfriend. Med school is one of the more expensive schools to attend. It might be wiser if you girlfriend came to NY and if she isn't willing to do that....

This is a private school. Nice website that promises a lot but I suspect delivers nothing. You don't say what you have a problem with but the school will prob not take you seriously. Getting an attorney to write a letter to them might get them to address your complaints but that's unlikely. The best person would have been Marvin Zindler but he's no longer with us. I'd move my child to another school if you are having problems. These things are popping up all over Texas.

Creek, Fair, or Woods High School? Houston Texas?

Creek, Fair, or Woods High School? Houston Texas?
Hiiiii, I'm stuck in a huge decision! And i have to figure it out in five months and I really need yall's help... I have no idea which school to go to, Cy Creek, Cy Fair, Cy Woods? Which school was a whole lot of fun? Almost all of my friends are going to Creek, and then three are going to Woods... But I've heard Creek is ghetto. And I only know a bunch of guys going to fair.. And I also want to know what the cheer team was like for what school you went too.. If you went to any of these high schools PLEASE help! And if you were me, what school would you go to?

Cy Woods is the better school.

2
Okay, first of all i would never choose cy-woods, because i have never met one person from that school that is nice or un-snobbish. (i'm sure there are but ive never met one) And BTW Creek is not ghetto at all, its just been a running joke forever started by some people that never even went to Creek. I used this answer to answer another question so sorry for not having it be original: Okay trust me i know the answer to this. This was one of my research projects in my middle school, Hamilton, which splits up about 70% go to cy-fair and 30% go to Cy-Creek. (I am going to Cy-Creek) If you base it on the state-standardized test (TAKS) Cy-Fair is the better school. Cy-Fair also is higher in the U.S. World News Rankings of the top 1500 high schools, by about 100 schools. Yet, Cy-Creek has had a higher average score on the SAT AND ACT for many years now. Cy-Fair's sports teams have done well earlier this millenium; however, Cy-Creek currently holds better rankings in most sports (including Football, Swimming, Water Polo, Dance Team, Baseball, Softball, Cross Country, and Soccer) Yet, Cy-Creek is undergoing renovations this year, and it will not be done until August 2010. Cy-Fair's renovations were done a couple of years back. At Cy-Fair, the family's incomes are generally higher than of those at Cy-Creek, and at Cy-Creek you generally notice a more diverse environment (even though the statistics show that Cy-Creek is less diversified) In terms of fun, it all depends on the organizations you join. As well, the "stereotypes" around the district mostly classify Cy-Creek as the "normal" school while the kids at Cy-Fair are generally more (i guess you could say) "snobbish", yet cy-fair usually has just a tad more school spirit. If I were to come to the district new, I would choose Cy-Creek, simply because it's positives outway the negatives by a lot. Also, I have met faculty from both schools, and I can tell you that at Cy-Creek the principal is much more fun and "cool" (ex. one time i witnessed a very strict teacher unfairly apprehend a student and mr.wells, the cy-creek principal, wispered to the kid to just forget about it :D) while the Cy-Fair principal is not. The staff at Cy-Fair is also more strict, while the staff at Cy-Creek is more friendly, and is a lot more invested in the students. When my sibling graduated from Cy-Creek, he even invited most of his teachers to come to his party, and most of them did! So as you see, I believe Cy-Creek is better. You may call me bias, but i believe that if i had to choose only knowing the facts, I would choose Creek. Go Cougars! P.S. With the renovation, the school is very nice, and much nicer than Cy-Fair. Sure it can be hectic, but once its done it will be great. P.P.S. If you are moving here, you go to the school you are zoned to, unless your guardian works at a certain school, then you also have the option to go there. P.P.P.S. (hahaha) if you are referring to drill teams, Cy-Creek is far better (silverados) and even carry a national title from i believe 2003. Cy-Woods is just a bunch of gussied up rich kids, and Cy-Fair girls are just "there" And if you are talking about cheerleading, no one pays attention to that here... (sorry :D) Hope this helped!

Most magnet school programs in HISD do not take anyone unless they are entering the 9th grade. I actually don't know of any program that takes transfer after the 9th grade due to space limitations and the fact that the programs have a block curriculum starting in 9th grade. SInce you would be going into the 10th grade you would have missed all the necessary classes in the 9th grade.

You wont want to be in the inner city. We call it inside the "loop" My husband is a teacher and coach for Houston ISD. I would NEVER in a million years send my kid to a Houston ISD school. There are fights, gangs, racial tension...it's bad. The better districts are outside the general city area.. Ex. Ft Bend ISD, Humble ISD, Conroe, Cypress-Fairbanks, Pearland) Those all offer exceptional schools. Look in to the area north east of town. There are a couple of great neighborhoods such as Summerwood and Fall Creek which have newer school facilities and are convenient to downtown. Both those neighborhoods feed in to the Humble ISD system.

2
um well it depends where at in houston.. there are a lot of different school districts in houston with each having several diff high schools.. What particular area in Houston?

3
I agree with Nicole...Me personally I don't like none of the public schools..Have you been watching the news with the teachers at the ISD schools...very crazy. Then the students well I have no comment but I agree with Nicole 100%..We will be moving away from Houston at the end of the year to send our son to a private school in Kansas..Good luck on your search

to stay in nyc (and finish my last yr of high school) or move to houston texas?
im in my junior yr of high school, i'll be graduating in one more year. i would love to graduate from my current high school, but my family (mom dad little sis) bought a house in houston TX and are planning to move by this summer. should i stay with a (family) friend's family for a yr and go to college here, or move to TX with my fam and fly back here for college after a yr? if i were to stay. i would have to work over the summer for most of the money i would need to support myself, and is it even legal to stay with another family at 17? i really do want to stay here, it would mean so much more for me to graduate from my current high school. my parents are still considering. i need some advice, please.

The former appears to be appealing and appropriate unless you have pressing reasons to act otherwise!

2
its legal with your parents consent to live with another family. It would be advisable for someone local to have a medical power of attorney, so if you are badly hurt or sick they can make desisions until your parents are contacted. Have you planned yet on a college ? If your parents are living in Houston is there a nearby college that would suit you. ? A lot depends on how mature you are. Your friends arent going to want to have to push you , or constantly remind you to study . Good luck whichever you do. You could try it for a few months on the understanding that if it doesnt work out , or your grades drop , that you will transfer to texas.

3
You can stay with a family if your parents allow it. IF. My guess is that your parents won't be giving you that option. Mine didn't. I moved here to Houston when I was 16, my junior year (from a state that can see Manhattan but isn't New York). I had few choices back then as to whether I could stay. Looking back 30 years, I did the right thing by moving here. I missed my friends and my old high school, but hey, life wasn't (and isn't) fair. I got over it. I made new friends here. Besides, you might just like it and decide to go to college here (where the rates are a fraction of the northeast). You may think, naaaah, never could happen, but it does. Texas is home, and has been for most of 30 years. I've lived in other places, whether in the Navy, off at school, or for business, but I always come back. My first college was in Connecticut. I hated it. I became Texan. Worse things could happen! Oh, and welcome! EDIT: Konswayla is right on the mark. This is a rite of passage. Change is inevitable.

4
Stay in NYC. I've lived here for a year. Houston is dull, ugly, and boring.

5
When my friend was in eighth grade, her family moved, and so she stayed at a friend's house for the remainder of the year; only seeing her family on the weekends. Yes, it is perfectly legal to stay with another family at 17 (my friend was 12). It depends what you think is more important; being with family or graduating from your high school/being with your friends. To aj_lets_go_shopping, who said Houston was more dull and boring? Two of my friends moved to Texas, and they've adapted fine. pfft...

6
I"m from Houston. (aj, you must be pretty "dull, ugly and boring.") It would be hard to leave the friends you have in NYC. If you do come here, let it be a rite of passage. One thing you learn from life is that change will always happen. If you come with an open mind, (not a small one like aj) you can go back to NYC with a different perspective on your country. Take a peek over the metaphorical fence. Take the plunge. You'll have all sorts of new experiences. But it won't be anything like NYC. What better place to broaden your horizons than the endless Texas sky? Steer clear of the bad neighborhoods.

7
Come to Texas. Here's why. Back when Texas was just getting started as a State they set up the State University System. Now the Texas Legislature had to fund it somehow, but we don't like taxes down here and there wasn't a lot of money in Texas anyway at the time. What we did have a lot of though was LAND. So the Legislature, being kind of slimy, gave all the "good land" in the eastern part of the State (where there is water and trees and such) to settlers, to veterans, and to friends of the Legislators who made a ton of $$ by selling it to settlers. The dry, barren, empty land in the western part of the State that nobody wanted.... THAT is what was all given to the University system. Then, about 50 years later, OIL was found on that dry empty land nobody wanted. (It's called "The Permian Basin".) This means that the University of Texas, Texas A&M and the other State schools here have had TONS of money poured into them over the years; but most of it doesn't come from tution. You can get an education as good, or better, as at an East Coast Ivy League school for next to nothing in tution, IF you are a Texas Resident. (If you don't belive me, Google "University of Texas " and "McCombs School of Buisness"). The way you become a Texas Resident is you live here for a year before you start college. So here is what you do. Move here. Live here for a year. Go to UT. Get a better education than you would back East for about 1/2 or 1/3 of the price. It will not only save you a TON of money upfront (enough to buy a good used car, at least), BUT it will pay you dividends for the rest of your life because unless you are going to go to Yale or Harvard, a U.T. degree will get you more and better jobs in life. Now, I know it will be hard for you to leave your friends behind, and it will be a hard move. You have my full sympathy for that. BUT Lets play real world here. You are going to be leaving them behind in a year anyway. Everybody says "we will be friends forever" but in the real world nobody is. Sorry, but that is just the way life works. You are going to be feeling the pain of separation from them anyway, the only question is, will it be in the summer of 07 or the summer of 08? Now, if you ARE going to Yale, Harvard, Cornell or Princeton, then what I say won't apply. A Harvard diploma is hard to beat, (unless you went to Oxford). But if your college is anything less than a full blown Ivy League school (and even if it is RICE down in Houston can go head to head with them for a lot less $$$) your best move is to say good bye a year early. Feel sad. Come to Houston. E-mail your old friends. Meet somebody cute. Go to school here. Become a Texas resident. Go to UT Austin. Pocket a ton of cash in tution savings. Use that to buy a car. Hang out in Austin, Meet somebody else cute. and get a better education. After you graduate get a better job than you would have back home. Remember, everyone is moving to Texas because we have something the Blue States don' t have LOTS OF GOOD JOBS. You won't be the only person in your High School class to move to Texas, you will just be the first. Six years from now your classmates will be looking you up with "Hey, remember me? We went to High School together... could you help me find a job down in Dallas?" or "do you know anybody who works in..." or "I'll be coming to San Antonio for an interview and I was wondering if..."

I would stay there for one year. I would hate to have to spend my last year of high school trying to make such a huge adjustment and leaving all my friends behind. Then again, you might find that you would get a lot more attention from the opposite sex being 'the new kid.'

9
Have a trip to Houston before you make your decision. I'm older, about to retire, but I love the area. Yes it would be nice to close with your graduating class. Will missing your family affect your concentration for the school year? After you turn eighteen, you will be able to go any where you want. Consider the move to Houston. You can always go home again.

if you move to H-Town (huoston) tou would have the love of your parents and si there with you though you wont be with all your friends you would be with your family and could make new ones plus in H-Town there is alot to do and Texas is the best state in the big old US of A Im a texan true and clear P.S. If yor are from NY dont tell anyone your a Yankee!!!! P.S.S, if you go to the right schools in H-Town you could get a great education!!! happy helper

The best bet is calling up the school and begging. Haha! Phone numbers are listed on the district's website for the schools I believe, but things like that aren't released onto the internet unless you can find someone who went there when you're mom did and ask them to scan it.

2
If they had a yearbook back then, i'm sure they would have a copy there at the school in the library. Try calling the school and ask them if it would be possible to go there to see if they could find it.

I go to Saint Agnes, and i will be a senior next year. so, all of these choices are pretty good. Good job on getting accepted to St. Agnes, Debakey, and HSPVA! Debakey is not a sports school. Go there if you want to become a doctor. Bellaire is okay. they have a good marching band though. their academics are what you make of it. the school for you is st agnes, and i am not just saying that because i go there. this is the place to go. we have MEAN academics and sports. we go to state in every sport, and our dance team is one of the best (Remix dance team). If you want to do dance and have a good education (along wiht many other sports) then go to SAA. I'm warning you though, it's a challenging school. Don't slack off freshman year because it is easy...it WILL get harder. best of luck! you can do it!

At what school can I finish earning my associate's degree in Pharmacy Technology in Houston, Texas?
I currently live in Shreveport, Louisiana. But I wanna move to Houston, Texas before I graduate. Graduation is in December, but I'll be certified, as a Pharmacy Tech, this summer. I don't wanna move in the middle of a school year because of my kids. I've been in Shreveport for twenty-four years, I'm ready for something new and more opportunities. Shall I wait until graduation? Any suuggestions?

Usually around $25,000-35,000 the first year, depending on the school. Private schools usually do not pay as much as public ones do.

Doesn't Rice have a good drama department? If not, you have many options in Texas. UT is really good. So it UNT and BAYLOR (but I may be a little partial to Baylor.)

My answer is going to be biased because I am a Houston Couagar so I am going to tell you UH. LOL But seriously it all depends on what are you looking for in a school. Does both Sam and UH have your major? Are you looking for a more traditonal college or not? Do you prefer small town or big city? Never been attended Sam Houston but I have been to Huntsville, Texas and I think it would be more of a traditional college because its in a small town. UH is mainly a commuter school since everybody lives close by and doesn't have to waste money on housing so to some it might just seem like a big COMMUNITY COLLEGE but its what you make of it. From what I have heard from my friends who have graduated from both schools. They have said UH is the more prestigous college out of both of them. Need more background on what you are looking for in a college to help you out and if you prefer small town atmosphere or Urban atmosphere? Texas A&M is not close but not far from Houston. Texas Woman's University has branch in Houston UH Downtown is right in the heart of houston but its small SFA is in Nachodogues sp?

Old enough to be really stupid. Stay in school.

2
Talk to your school counselor. Tell them that you want to drop out of school. They will tell help you out. Each state has different laws regarding attendance and dropping out. Look in your student handbook. Usually, the book will list the school attendance laws and age to drop out of school.

I think Katy or Cypress are good school districts. But if you think that Krahn Elem is big, the schools in Katy and Cypress are way bigger.
